PRODUCT INFORMATION

1.What is the difference between Bellamy’s Organic Infant Formula Step 1 and Bellamy’s Organic Follow-on Formula Step 2?

Bellamy’s Organic Infant Formula Step 1 is formulated to provide complete nutrition for babies from birth. Our Step 1 formulation contains a higher portion of when protein than casein protein, as this is similar to breast milk. If your baby is not drinking breast milk, the only other safe choice is infant formula as the main drink for the first 12 months of life.

Bellamy’s Organic Follow-on Formula Step 2 is suitable from 6 months of age and are specially formulated to complement solids. Another important change at 6 months, is that the natural iron stores your baby was born with start to deplete so follow-on milks, like our Step 2 contain more iron than Step 1 Infant Formula. So many parents make the switch to help meet their babies’ changing needs

2. My baby is a few weeks nearing 6 months. Can I start on Bellamy’s Organic Follow-On Formula Step 2?

We recommend you continue feeding your baby Bellamy’s Organic Infant Formula Step 1 until your baby turns 6 months of age. If you have remaining Step 1 formula, when you baby is over the age of 6 months, this can be continued until it is finished and so it is not wasted.

3.How many feeds does my baby need per day of Bellamy’s Organic Step 1 Infant Formula?

Each baby is different, and needs vary from day to day. We recommend feeding your baby on demand. The below is a general guide of how much infant formula your baby might need:

FEEDING TABLE
Age of infant Quantity per feed Feeds per day
Cooled, boiled water Level measuring scoops
Up to 2 weeks 2 OZ 1 7-8
Up to 1 month 4 OZ 2 6
Up to 2 months 4 OZ 2 6
Up to 4 months 6 OZ 3 5
Up to 6 months 6 OZ 3 5

1 scoop = 0.31 oz (8.8 g) of powder. The Feeding Table is only a general guide. Your baby may need more or less than indicated.

Note: Consumption of vitamin or mineral preparations are not necessary in addition to this product. Discard any unfinished feed. Use only the enclosed scoop. Always add one level scoop (0.31 oz / 8.8 g) of powder to each 2 fl oz of cooled, boiled drinking water. Each bottle should be prepared individually.

Important notice: Breast milk is best for babies. Before you decide to use this product, consult your doctor or health worker for advice.

HOW TO TRANSITION

1.My baby's usual formula has been impacted by the shortage and I do not have any remaining formula. How do I start Bellamy’s Organic Formula?

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has assessed Bellamy’s Organic Formula as safe and nutritious for US infants.

If possible, we do recommend to slowly introduce small amounts of Bellamy’s Organic Formula following the guide below and slowly increasing the amount of the new formula over time. However we understand this is not possible in many circumstances.

If you do not have any remaining of your usual formula and need to transition from another brand to Bellamy’s Organic Infant Formula Step 1 and Bellamy’s Organic Follow-on Formula Step 2 , you can commence straight away! Most babies do just fine and transition across easily.

Be patient though, since it may take some time for your baby to get used to it.

2.My baby's usual formula has been impacted by the shortage but I do have some remaining usual formula. How do I transition to Bellamy’s Organic Formula slowly?

Many babies will transition to a Bellamy’s Organic easily, but some may be more sensitive to the taste of a new formulation and may also need to learn to ‘digest’ the new formula. In short, your little one may need a bit of time to get used to a new formula.

That’s why it makes sense to introduce a new formula gradually. The pace of this will just depend on how well your baby accepts the new formula. If everything is going smoothly, you may decide to change more quickly. Equally, even if you stick to the suggested schedule, it may still take your baby a few weeks after the transition to fully accept the new formula.

It may sound obvious, but make sure you follow the preparation instructions for the right formula during the changeover. Changing formulas can increase the risk of incorrect preparation, as each brand may use slightly different amounts of formula and water to prepare. For the same reason, we don’t recommend mixing formula brands together. When changing formula brands, the frequency, texture and colour of your baby’s bowel motions may also change, and this is quite normal.

SEVEN-DAY TRANSITION PLAN

Day One

For your baby’s first morning feed, offer one bottle or feeding cup of the new formula. For the remaining feeds for the day, offer the previous formula.

Day Two

Offer the new formula for the first two feeds of the day, then the previous formula for the remaining feeds.

Day Three

Offer the new formula for the first three feeds of the day, then the previous formula for the remaining feeds

Days Four to Seven

Continue this method until your baby has fully transitioned across to the new formula, which may take around seven days.

Important Notice to Parents and Guardians

  • Breast milk is the best for babies. The World Health Organisation recommends exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months of life. Unnecessary introduction of bottle feeding or other food and drinks will have a negative impact on breastfeeding. After six months of age, infants should receive age-appropriate foods while breastfeeding continues for up to two years of age or beyond. Consult your doctor before deciding to use infant formula or if you have difficulty breastfeeding.
